Northwest Pt. 2 (Starbucks is the worst thing about Seattle)
While in Seattle, it was out goal to cover as much of the city as we could. People seemed to tell us all about and where we should go, such as, the neighborhoods that are must visits, taking the ferry, the parks, the breweries, the food, and of course the Pike Place Market. Seattle is incredibly easy to navigate, but it always feels like you are walking up a hill, which is exhausting after touring the city for 3 days. Anywhere we went, we seemed to run into an incredible view of the city or Elliot Bay. There is a Starbucks on just about every corner, with many other coffee shops tucked in and around the city.
One thing that stood out to me the most, was the homeless people in Seattle. It was sad to see rumbling streets everywhere with booming cultures, new fashion and fantastic restaurants, then you turn to your left or right and you would be able to find a homeless person within 50 yds of where you were standing. After talking with a few, it was amazing how much pride they have with their city. It seems that the city does care about the homeless and tries to find new and innovative ways to get them off the streets and have stable living.
Here are my must Do's of Seattle:
1. Pike Place Market- Yea its touristy, but its amazing and is well known for a reason
2. Top Pots Doughnuts; Best Doughnut I have ever had (Sorry Voodoo Doughnuts!)
3. Capitol Hill; Whether you are looking for fashion, beer, night life, or culture, this is the place to be. The Capitol neighborhood is very Prideful (literally), they are proud of their neighborhood and support their community.
4. Go watch the Sunset at a park. We got to sit down and relax on our last night at Discovery Park on Elliot Bay to watch the Sunset. Nothing really beats a Sunset or Sunrise.
5. Lastly, if you plan to go to Seattle, LEAVE IT, if you know what is good for you, tour the state, it is beautiful, whether it is Olympic National Park, Mt. Rainier National Park, or taking a ferry to the Pudget Sound, go to them, add an extra day to your vacation if you have too, its worth it. Seattle is amazing, but so is the State.
My Don'ts of Seattle:
1. Don't stay in a hotel, this place has many many Airbnb's with lots of character, and will save you lots of money to spend that extra day leaving the city. However, the Airbnb's will get sparse outside of the city.
2. Don't do the Space Needle. The Space needle is cool I agree, but there are better views for half the price or Free! I enjoyed the Skyview in the Columbia Center it has an amazing view of the city, and allows you to look out at the Space Needle. Lastly, Kerry Park, is by far the best view of Seattle. On a clear day you can see the entire city and if you are lucky Mr. Rainier.
3. Don't waster your time at the Original Starbucks, although I enjoyed it with the lady, the coffee is still just as bad as the one in Wisconsin or anywhere else in the world.
